There are an endless amount of “sensational ingredients” being promoted by the cosmetic industry which claim to eliminate wrinkles. Unfortunately many of them do not really work and any product that claims to be a “miracle treatment” should be avoided. There are currently several ingredients which exhibit impressive, well researched, substantiated results in the fight against wrinkles. These are the ingredients mentioned below. In addition you must be careful of the hidden ingredients found in creams which can act as hormone disrupters or even worse potentially cause allergies and possibly even cancer. Aging skin is the result of damage to cellular components by free radicals, which cause the oxidation of proteins, lipids, cross-linking of proteins and damage to DNA. The cumulative damage from free radical activity, which is generated by normal metabolism of the cell and exposure to radiation and toxins, eventually results in a cell that can no longer function. The chief defence against free radical damage are antioxidants. Many “anti-aging” face creams sensationalized by cosmetic companies contain an array of antioxidants which all claim to reverse the signs of aging without any significant evidence to substantiate these claims. Although antioxidants may not reverse the signs of aging they are effective in preventing further damage to your skin and thus slow the aging process.

Retinoic Acid Face Cream- Prescription Required

Retinoic acid is the active form of vitamin A that is scientifically proven to be effective against solar radiation induced exogenous skin aging. It is effective in improving abnormal cell production deep in the dermis helping the skin appear smoother and younger. The cosmetic companies are very aware of the effectiveness of retinoic acid and have tried to duplicate these results with other forms of Vitamin A like retinol and Pro-Retinol which are not as potent. Our retinoic acid cream also contains lipoic acid as an antioxidant/antiinflammatory to help minimise any irritation caused by retinoic acid. We can make any strength ranging from 0.025% up to 0.1% depending on your skin type.

Estrogen Face Cream – Prescription Required

As women age their estrogen levels begin to decline which is directly associated with the beginning of endogenous skin aging. The application of topical estrogens reverse this process thus improving the visible signs of aging skin. Research performed in the Department of Dermatology, at the University of Vienna Medical School, has shown that the use of 1g of either 0.01% estradiol or 0.3% estriol face creams applied to the face and neck daily on perimenopausal women for six months had a remarkable improvement of skin aging symptoms. Significant wrinkle depth and pore size reduction was observed with both creams as well as significant improvements of vascularisation, skin elasticity and firmness as well as skin moisture. Both estriol and estradiol induced a significant increase in collagen fibers and striking increases of collagen III. The incidence of improvement ranged from 61% to 100% of women tested depending on the effect observed. The onset of effects took between 8 to 19 weeks after commencing treatment.

The study also revealed that facial application made no significant difference in estradiol or FSH levels between pretreatment and final values. No systemic hormonal side effects were observed or reported. These results indicate that estrogen facial creams represent a new and effective therapy towards skin aging in perimenopausal and menopausal women.

DMAE Face Cream – Prescription Required

DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) is a natural and unique antioxidant membrane stabilizer researched by the Department of Dermatology at Yale University Medical School shown to prevent the breakdown of the cell plasma membrane and the resulting production of arachidonic acid and other inflammatory mediators. Its antioxidant and antiinflammatory effects both increase skin smoothness, brightness while reducing sagging skin and wrinkle lines.

Non Prescription Anti Wrinkle Creams

(1)Exfoliating Face Creams

Our exfoliating face creams contains either 10% glycolic acid or 5% for sensitive skin types. When it comes to removing surface layers of skin this is the place to start as facial scrubs are unable to perform as evenly or smoothly as alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s). There is substantial research showing AHA’s may also help produce collagen and improve skin integrity while removing the top layer of dead skin cells revealing smoother younger looking skin. The hydroxy acids are formulated in a pH controlled non-greasy gel which is readily absorbed into the skin providing the skin with a combination of emollients to help hydrate the skin. These products may cause a slight burning sensation which should diminish with time. It is recommended that they are first tested on a small area of skin to ensure no sensitivity reactions occur. They may then be applied to the face and neck, avoiding the eye area, once or twice daily after using a facial cleanser. Continue use until the desired effect is obtained. For women with sensitive skin types a half strength face cream is also available to avoid any skin irritation.

(2) Rejuvenating Face Cream

Research performed in the Department of Dermatology at Yale University Medical School has shown the superior effectiveness of a new and very powerful natural antioxidant known as alpha lipoic acid. Blemish Removal Cream

This cream is designed to remove freckles, melisma and general brown patching. It contains Hydroquinone and Kojic Acid which are potent depigmenting agents able to inhibit melanin production in the skin. Its action is enhanced by the presence of glycolic acid which aid its penetration through the skin as well as providing their own exfoliating effects. Vitamins C and E are also incorporated into the cream for their antioxidant qualities. Blemfade Cream should first be tested on a small area of skin to test for any potential sensitivities. It is designed to be applied morning and night only to the affected area of skin. Several weeks of treatment are needed before any noticeable improvement occurs.
