Pediatric Compounding

For a long time there has been a restriction in therapeutic options for infants due to a limited range of pediatric formulations on the market. The doses, dose forms and flavors of many commercially available medications are often designed for adults and unsuitable for these sometimes challenging young patients. In order to increase compliance, improve therapeutic outcomes and make it easier for parents to administer the medication to their children we can can help.

Altered Dose Forms

The dose form of the medication used can be tailored to suite the infants requirements. Rather than being restricted to tablets that were designed for adults we can prepare specially flavored mixtures, suspensions, lollipops or suppositories to make administering these medications easier for the parents.

Altered Dosages

Rather than being restricted to doses often designed for adults the strength of each dose can be tailor made for the infant in order to minimise any side effects.

Flavors

And finally a wide variety of palatable flavors are available to mask the taste of the medication to suite the most finicky pallet. Flavors such as chocolate, raspberry, vanilla and bubblegum are available. This helps improve compliance and makes the parents job a little easier.

Formulations

Many of the formulations used in our laboratory for pediatric patients come from The Pediatric Drug Formulations Text, 5th Edition which contains over 280 formulations for infants and children commonly used around the world. It includes ophthalmic, rectal, oral and injectable products. This text was developed by The Ohio State University Children’s Hospital. In addition to the formulations it also cites very valuable stability data for these preparations often which is very difficult to obtain. The wealth of information provided by this text ensures that a reliable, tested and stable preparation can be produced for the benefit of all pediatric patients.

Infant Reflux

A common condition in young infants can be very distressing for the child and parents alike. This however is easily treated using an Omeprazole Suspension which is readily available from us with a script from a GP.

Mental Conditions Affecting Children

Children whom suffer from any form of mental condition, weather it be ADHD, autism or simply a learning disability, may be the result of an intrinsic biochemical imbalance. This imbalance may involve certain biochemical pathways not functioning correctly due to nutritional deficiencies, gut and digestive problems, food allergies/intolerances, heavy metals including copper, etc. These imbalances can  directly affect neurotransmitter production and thus brain function.

In order to help identify which biochemical pathways may be affected a comprehensive organic acids test should be performed. Other tests which may also help include stool analysis, heavy metal testing, ALCAT food allergies/intolerances, etc.

Once the results are obtained an individual nutrient combination treatment composing of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and cofactors can be specifically compounded in order to treat the offending biochemical imbalance for each specific patient.

In addition we have also formulated biomedical treatments in accordance to DAN and Pfeiffer protocols for the treatment of autism and many other mental conditions prescribed by appropriately trained practitioners. These include preparations that aid under methylators or over methylators,  pyrroluria, MT primers, copper chelators and chelation therapy.

For more information on tests and treatments for these conditions you are required to log in to the free practitioners advice section.

To organise these tests you are required to book in for a consultation with Dr Serafin. Once the results are obtained he will then specifically formulate a nutrient combination based on the test results to help rectify any biochemical imbalances detected.
