Capsules
Medication can be compounded into individually customised capsule form. The dose can be tailored to suite any individual and can be made to avoid potential allergens. Multiple medications can often be combined into a single dosage or made into controlled release capsules in order to lessen the number of doses that need to be taken.
Lozenges/Troches
Lozenges or troches are a popular dosage form used to keep drugs in the mouth when a local action is required. They also can be placed under the tongue and allowed to dissolve for sublingual delivery, which allows the medication to enter the blood stream quickly and easily.
Transdermal Creams
Transdermal methods of delivery are widely used because they allow the absorption of medicine directly through the skin. Gels, creams and sprays are easy to use and are effective in getting medicine into the bloodstream quickly. Because hormones are fatty molecules, many of them are absorbed very well through the skin and therefore a cream or gel is a very convenient way to deliver the hormone into the system. Dosing hormones this way avoids rapid breakdown by the liver, so a much smaller dose can be used.
Suspensions
Many medications are not available in liquid forms for those patients who have difficulty swallowing tablets and capsules. Other patients may have difficulty tolerating the taste of a commercially available liquid. Through compounding, a pharmacist can make a naturally sweetened, pleasant thing oral solution or suspension that can be administered easily and accurately.
Suppositories
Patients who cannot take medication orally are prime candidates for compounded suppositories. Available in various shapes depending on administration, suppositories can be given rectally, vaginally or urethrally. By melting or dissolving into the body cavity, they pass quickly into the bloodstream. They can be used for delayed-release medications, hormone replacement therapy, or to treat local conditions such as nausea, haemorrhoids, infections or inflammation.
SERVICES - Consultations
Consultations are available with Dr Michael Serafin Ph.D and are based on nutritional and orthomolecular medicine (a branch of complementary medicine) which employs the principle that nutrition plays an important role in virtually every medical condition.
Nutrients (vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids, glyconutrients), bioactive compounds (e.g. probiotics, herbs, enzymes, etc.) and bioidentical hormones are used therapeutically to assist in the correction of any underlying malfunctioning metabolic pathways which ultimately cause disease. By addressing and treating the underlying cause of the disease allows the body to heal rather than just simply treating the symptoms while the underlying cause still remains.
Nutrients, bioactive compounds and bioidentical hormones can increase or decrease the levels of important chemicals in the body, reduce inflammation, influence hormonal balance, reduce toxic load on the body, influence the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain, improve immune function, reduce oxidative stress, improve digestion and assimilation of foods, improve brain function and emotions, improve energy levels and very importantly treat illness.

In order to help diagnose the existing condition certain tests may be required such as saliva sex and adrenal hormone analysis, blood or urine thyroid tests, heavy metal analysis, ALCAT food allergy tests, organic acid urine analysis and stool analysis, to name a few. We can organize these for you. If any additional blood tests are required we can provide a request for your doctor to organize them for you.
Treatments may involve the use of dietary and lifestyle changes, natural adrenal, sex or thyroid hormones, detoxification and certain natural supplements. If test results indicate you require any bioidentical hormones, which legally require a valid doctors prescription, we will provide a written request to your doctor specifying the preparations you require which you will need to organise with them.
